Free Dragon Boat helm training! – Sunday 12th April

We are looking to add to our team of volunteer Dragon Boat helms. If you are interested in boats, getting out on the loch and meeting up with our paddlers it may be right for you!

The Dragon Boat helm is responsible for steering the boat, coordinating the paddlers and ensuring we get out and back safely. We have an existing team of helms and generally try to have two helms on each boat when we go out. New helms would be paired up with more experienced helms to begin with as they build up their experience. Some experience with boats is useful but not necessary, and many of our helms had not been on a dragon boat prior to becoming a helm.

We ask that helms volunteer at least once or twice a month on a Sunday morning between April and October.

The training course will be delivered from Galloway Activity Centre on Sunday 12th April. If you are interested in taking part please e-mail: info@dragonboatsonlochken.co.uk

Back on the water in 2026!

We’re pleased to let you know we are heading back onto Loch Ken in our dragon boats with our first paddle planned for Sunday 12th April. We aim to paddle every Sunday morning through to October, weather permitting. We look forward to seeing you soon!

Paddling dates for 2025

We’re planning to paddle every Sunday from 6th April to end of October in 2025. This will be subject to weather (mainly the wind) so keep an eye out for updates on our Facebook group, e-mail and Whatsapp.

Open Day on Sunday 2nd June!

Our annual Open Day is on Sunday 2nd June. This is a chance for anyone (12+) to come and have a look at the dragon boats and have a try at paddling. There is no charge for this session. We provide buoyancy aids. We’d just recommend you bring some water, a hat, sunscreen etc. Refreshments will also be provided. The open day will be on from 10am to 3pm at the Galloway Activity Centre. If you want to paddle please arrive at 10 to give us time to get everything organised. If you have any questions please e-mail: pflssw@gmail.com.

Paddling dates for 2024

The first day we are planning to paddle in 2024 is Sunday 14th April. We are aiming to paddle every Sunday up to the 27th October.

The weather (particularly the wind!) can sometimes mean we need to cancel sessions so keep an eye here and on our Facebook page for updates. We’ll also try to update you via e-mail if we have your address.
